There are many online poker guides selling on the internet today. But after reading most of them, I have found that most are just copied and outdated information! One of the guides I have bought and read is the Play Online Poker As A Business guide, written by Kim Birch. In this article, I will review the contents inside this guide and inform you about whether the guide is worth its money or not.
This poker package consists of 16 chapters and is only available in a PDF format. I will briefly cover the first 13 chapters in the guide and talk about what you can expect from these chapters
1. Play Online Poker As A Business - Chapters 1 to 4
Chapter 1 is called the introduction. This is where Kim Birch introduces himself, where he's from, and when he started playing poker professionally (which is at 11 while he was at work!) He talks about how he has worked his way up to earning 6 figures a year with online poker, and which are the current websites he owns.
Chapter 2 is called Origins of Poker. It tells you the story of how poker began on a Mississippi steamboat and how a helpless guy who lost all his money ended up with $50,000. It then elaborates on how playing poker has become a profession today.
Chapter 3 is called Online Poker Intro, and is a really short 1 page chapter talking about online poker and how to take advantage of average players online to create a good income for yourself.
Chapter 4 is the Rules of Texas Holdem, an important chapter for any player not familiar with Texas Holdem. It is a very elaborate chapter, giving a complete walkthrough on the game, and roughly discusses card rankings.
2. Play Online Poker As A Business - Chapters 5 to 8
Chapter 5 is named Poker Lingo. It explains more than 50 terms used in online poker. Again, this is an important chapter for players who are not too familiar with playing poker online.
Chapter 6 is called Poker Numbers. From this chapter onwards, the author starts to reveal the real secrets of how he manages to make so much money with poker. This chapter focuses on poker odds and winning percentages, exactly what chances you have to make certain hands, and the chances before the flop that another player is holding an ace etc.
Chapter 7 is What It Takes To Win. This chapter mainly talks about the mental aspects of your game, including discipline, patience and risk management. It tells you how you should treat poker winnings like it is a business, and not a get rich quick scheme.
Chapter 8 is Online Poker Planning. It focuses on bankroll management, telling you exactly how much you should play given your current financial situation, and what goals you should set according to the bankroll you have.
3. Play Online Poker As A Business - Chapters 9 to 13
Chapter 9 - Online Poker Tournaments: This chapter gives you advice on big and small tournaments, and the strategies and approaches you should use for each of them.
Chapter 10 - Profile Your Opponents: This chapter details how you can categorize your opponents into 5 types of players (aggressive maniac, ace happy, calling station, tight and scared, tight aggressive and tricky). It also teaches what specific actions and reactions you should make against these types of players. All the information is organized into tables for easy reference.
Chapter 11 - Low Limit SNG Strategy: This chapter discusses powerful strategies that will help you finish in the money regularly.
Chapter 12 - Position In Poker: Talks about the importance of seat position, and whether or not you should bluff
Chapter 13 - Aggression in poker: This chapter discusses the fine line that separates good aggressive players who can bluff successfully vs. bad maniac players who are confused about what exactly is good aggression. Then it goes on to talk about different hands that you can be aggressive with, depending on the situation.
In conclusion, I find that this guide is very informative and certainly well worth the $49. However, I do feel that there are better guides on the internet, as I consider this one to be a little outdated and rather basic for me.
