Online Video Poker Casinos - Best Places to Play

Good cards are a must when the stakes are high. Either that or a really convincing bluff, but no one can pull that off all the time. If one is to play online for large stakes then they are going to want to find a poker room that's going to deal them decent hands when it counts. Some poker sites constantly deal crappy hands that can keep a player down on his luck. Here are some tips to choosing the right online video poker casinos to try your skills at.

One site is Paradise Poker. Some people know this site as the best place online to play poker. On this site there are constantly tournaments going on and a player will always find several high stakes games to enter. People have mentioned that this online video poker casino has the most pleasing graphics and yet it is not crowded with all sorts of unnecessary icons. For those players worried about the security of their money, Paradise Poker has shuffle card reviews from a highly recommended company, Pricewaterhouse Coopers.

Another good site to play poker at is Party Poker. With all of Party Poker's efforts to get their name out there, all of the players they have brought to their tables have certainly rewarded them. It is worth noting, however, that although they do have quite a large amount of customers; their customer service is nothing to brag about. Party Poker is created by the people that started CardPlayer Cruises, which includes, Mike Sexton. Every year Party Poker hosts a rather large tournament known as Party Poker Million, which is also quite a draw for online poker players.

Poker Stars has never have a time where there is not a large tournament going on that anyone can enter. Popular with most of the free roll players, the site offers some fun stuff in the programming that keep them coming back time after time. Although the interface may appear rather chaotic with extensive graphics that can be used as player icons.

The Poker Room offers a variety of options, such as multi-table tournaments, as well as Texas Hold'em, Omaha, 7 Card Stud and a number of casino games. For those players worried about viruses, no download is needed in order to play on Poker Room. In addition to a good links section, players can play a free roll with play money, including tournaments.

Ultimate Bet may not have the financial status to back it up, but it certainly has a number of well-known players such as Phil Hellmuth, Annie Duke, and Russ Hamilton that add to the sites credibility. One nice characteristic about this room is that it includes a handy feature where players can minimize the playing table to a smaller bar, allowing them to play multiple tables easier.

Prima Poker, more of a group of poker sites rather than a single room and boasts almost no waiting time before the beginning of the next poker game. With twenty-one sites from which they use to create a game, therefore, it doesn't matter what site you are connecting from, you can still play poker with a full table. It is important to know, that this site uses a third party software and therefore, updates may be slow to arrive at the site.

These are, of course, just a starting point for choosing which online video poker casino to play at. The internet is loaded with online casinos, be sure that the one you pick is reputable and safe for play.

Rake Explained and Comparing Online Poker to Live Poker

The 'rake' can be defined as the fee the poker room charges players (from here on out 'poker room' or 'house' is referring to a casino, online poker room, local card club/poker room, or a game run by an individual(s)). There are generally two different methods that are used by the house to collect the rake. The first is when the card room will take a percentage of the pot up to a certain amount. For example, they could take 5% up to $3 before they 'push' the winner their chips. How much the house takes and what requirements must be met before they 'rake' the pot will differ between online poker rooms and 'live' (not online).

The second method, and the one that will not be discussed in too much depth here, is what is known as a 'time charge'. The house will collect a certain amount of money every half hour or hour from all the players playing. The time charge method is usually not used for the lower limit games, and even in the mid to high limit games, it is not always employed. From here on out 'the rake' is only going to refer to the rake that is collected from individual pots. This is the standard method that most poker players are used to and will be the focus of the rest of the article.

Live poker rooms can have different requirements of when they rake the pot and at what percentage. For live poker rooms the percentage is usually 10% and, depending on the poker room, can have a maximum of $3-$5. Some poker rooms also have a minimum rake that they take from each pot, regardless of the size. For example, if there is a 1/2 NL game and the blinds are $1 and $2, they might take up to $3 from the pot on the flop. This means that if everybody folds to the small blind, he/she calls the big blind, and the big blind checks, the house will collect up to $3 (depending on their policies), even though they are heads up and the pot only has $4. The house will then take another dollar once the pot reaches $40 (10% of $40 is $4, but they have already taken $3) and, if there maximum is $5, they will then take another dollar at $50.

Because most players realize that contributing $2 in order to win $1 is a tough proposition, most poker rooms will allow the small blind and big blind to 'chop'. This means that they can both receive their blinds back if they both agree that it is acceptable. This has to be done before the flop and no other players can be in the hand. Poker rooms that do collect rake no matter how many players there are if there is a flop, usually have a 'no flop, no drop' policy. This means that if there is no flop, no matter how many raises or how big the pot, the house will not collect any money from the flop. It needs to be remembered that not all live poker rooms collect rake if there is a flop. This is sometimes regional, but can also vary from poker room to poker room in the same region.

Online poker rake differs in several ways. The first is that the percent of rake that is usually taken is 5% and this is almost always capped at $3. Not only is there usually a maximum $3 collection, but there is almost always no minimums. In some games the pot will need to be as large as $30 before the house collects their percentage. In games where the house collects 5%, because of simplicity, they can divide the amount they collect into 'cents'. This means on a $20 pot there can be a rake of $0.50. For online games, there is not an option to chop if the small blind and big blind are in the hand before the flop.

The above descriptions of how live poker rooms and online poker rooms calculate and collect rake are the most common methods employed. As was mentioned, the rules will vary, but a majority of poker rooms use the above rules and using them as guidelines can help the poker player (whether a novice or beginner) decide which version offers the highest return. There are many other factors that determine the profitability of a poker game and it would be foolish to base game selection solely on the rake collected.

It is fairly obvious that the maximum rake that the house collects in live games is a significant amount higher than online. Even if it was assumed that they only charged a maximum of $3 the minimums are much higher than online poker rooms. Seeing a flop with three people and $9 in the pot ($6 after the rake is taken), for example, creates a negative expected value that is fairly tough to overcome. It is also safe to deduce that one pays more per hand in rake in a live setting as opposed to online.

Even though more is raked per hand in a live poker game, the amount that is paid per hour is comparable. In a live game, if the average rake per hand is $3, but there is only 30 hands an hour, the house will collect $90/hr. When playing online there is an average of 70 hands an hour. If the average rake collected per hand is $1.50, the hourly collection from the table is $105.

Using the above as guidelines (based off of 2/4 limit games) the table as a whole will pay more per hand in live games, but more per hour in online games. This is due to the amount of hands that are possible per hour per table online as opposed to live.

Differences Between Online and Offline Poker Play

Before joining the online poker community, poker players tend to have experienced off-line poker first. There are important differences between the two, which can be exploited to give you the edge at the poker table. Use these online poker tips to develop a poker play-style which will provide you with the maximum profit.

1. The ability to change seat. If you're sat down at a real casino and decide to move seats, you'll get a lot of aggro from other players at the table. If you move so you act before a very loose player, or after a very tight player then other players at the table will complain that you're getting an unfair advantage over them. In online poker you don't have that problem, if you want to change to an empty seat you can just click on the 'empty seat' button and you'll be seated at this new location.

2. Become a 'new you'. At the online poker table no one knows who you are. You could be a 7 foot tall body builder, or a 5 foot tall boy - that's irrelevant, it's how you present yourself at the poker table that will dictate how other players envision you. If you have an intimidating name, like 'PokerSlayer' people at the table will react to this. The same goes for your image (most sites allow you to upload a photo / image).

3. Distractions. There are distractions in both online and offline poker, offlline poker tends to be either eating/drinking, conversation or watching players at other tables. Online poker has distractions too, which are normally the other opportunities on your computer - films / TV series / other viewable content... The best strategy is to only have the poker websites on your internet browser, possibly an poker tips site too.

4. Obnoxious players. Don't get me wrong, you do have obnoxious player's in both online and offline poker. Offline players being overly rude tend to be warned and then banned from the poker table by the croupier or casino manager. Online it's a lot harder to get rid of these players, there's often a 'vote player off table' option, but because of the volume of players on these poker rooms it's impossible for the admins to ensure this happens correctly.

5. Hand's Per Hour. This is probably the biggest difference between the two. Offline hands can last for what feels like an eternity, people think for minutes before they act. In online poker there are restrictions on how long you can have for 'thinking time', which leads to a lot more hands per hour.

Internet poker has become a vast empire in the last few years, make the most of online poker by using the best poker tips, poker bonuses and poker sites available. You can even use no deposit poker bonuses to test out the tips for yourself at not cost, the best part is you can still win real money - at no risk at all!

Live Online Poker - A Million Times Better than Live Poker

Do you enjoy online casino poker rooms? How about paying $400.00 for airfare to Las Vegas, $600.00 for 4 nights, and $1000.00 losing at live poker rooms. Why not just save all this money and play texas holdem poker on line. The only way to go is us legal texas holdem online games which are on poker navodila, full tilt poker, party poker, and absolute poker. It's much harder for any player to read your texas holdem hands online than it is in person which is one reason why it is much better to play poker online.

With live poker, you will have to tip the dealer when you win a good hand. With texas holdem online, there is NO tipping. You simply win a big hand, you can get up from the table at anytime and your not obligated to stay at all. Throw online poker cheat out the door, it is IMPOSSIBLE to cheat online as opposed to in person where you can cheat all the time. Playing free money online poker, you can score some great bonuses to and in person you will never see any type of free bonuses.

For example, Fulltilt poker offers players 100% deposit bonus. Which means, you deposit 100 bucks you are getting 100 bucks back! You can't beat this! Almost every site you play at online will offer you some kind of online poker bonus. All online poker sites will also offer rules of texas holdem and strategies. You can sit in your pajamas and win thousands of dollars an hour without leaving your own home! Who can pass this up? Where players starting out usually mess up in is playing cash games instead of Sit-N-Go's. Sit-N-Go's are definitely one of the best ways to make money playing poker online and when you buy in to a texas holdem poker tournament you only can lose the buy-in amount and only your poker chips, not your whole bankroll.

Texas holdem poker lesson number 2; find the right online poker room and get familiar with the texas holdem software. Being familiar with the software will enable you to get comfortable taking notes and also have options for the 4 color card deck to make it easier to see flushes. You can change the color of clubs to green instead of spades and clubs always both being black. It is much easier identifying cards and you will be less prone to making mistakes at the poker tables.

Playing the right poker hands in Sit-N-Go's is also key to your success. It is best to play tight in the beginning; folding usually the first 20 hands unless you see an AA, KK, QQ, or AK. There is no better feeling than waiting it out and taking down first place playing as little as 20 hands the WHOLE game to get there. You really do not need to keep playing weak hands and just sit on a good hand to take down huge pots. There is a lot of fish out there and it is only a matter of time until you take their chip stack.

The online version of poker games is definitely equally exciting. But, one should earn some helpful strategies and rules to beat his/her opponents. When it comes to play poker online, people usually believe that it is all about aggression. Well, aggressive play does help sometimes, but it is not the proper way to win at online poker games. You have to understand that there is a little difference between the situation that exists when playing poker at land based casinos and in an online poker room. In the latter case, players are not able to see each other, which can makes it a bit tough for you to analyze your opponents. For this reason, it is usually better to keep your aggressiveness in control.

Betrosexuals: A Poker Online Phenomenon

People wear all sorts of disguises at the poker table: weakness, strength, bluster, naivety. It's the nature of the game. So it only makes sense that new forms of deception at the poker table would evolve as the popularity of the game's newest innovation -- poker online -- spread. It's no wonder then that, when you can't see the person you're playing against, there's a good chance they're not who they profess to be -- like male or female.

It's an honest to goodness phenomenon, with its very own name -- Betrosexuality: presenting oneself as the opposite gender at a poker online table.

Now, to be fair to the term, and its history, Betrosexuality was actually coined prior to its use in poker online, and occasionally with slightly different implications. Here are a couple of alternate definitions of the terms:

- Betrosexuals wager on both men's and women's sporting events

- Betrosexuals sell sexual favors by lottery

Recent research analyzed by Nottingham Trent University Professor Mark Griffiths reports that 23% of female British poker online players pretend to be men and more than 10% of British male poker online players pretend to be women. British betrosexuals are reportedly wagering an estimated 213 million pounds sterling at poker online rooms.

There are a few ways gender is represented at a poker online table that may elude some players, they're so subtle. But as much in the background as they are, they make a potent impact in people's gameplay. They are:

Screen Names: A poker online player's chosen nickname has always been a prime indicator of their demeanor (or posed demeanor) -- so The Terminator would connote aggressiveness and Bill Gates might suggest a limitless bankroll; poker online screen names can also connote gender (ie. Poker Daddy, Hot Mamma, Club Girl, Mr. Poker);

Avatars: If your poker online room uses avatars (3D human or humanoid figures) to represent the players, you could easily throw your fellow players off kilt (if you know how to use this advantage, that is -- more on that in a moment);

Chat: The chat window is always a popular part of the poker online experience as this is where people often betray themselves. That said, still others, knowing this fact, only pretend to do so.

But using this form of deception effectively requires far more than simply misrepresenting yourself. For, once you've planted the seed, you need to know how to nurture and grow it. You need -- in other words -- to know how gender plays into poker online and off alike, and you need to know how to play the game based on this knowledge.

So let's get to the two basic considerations in questioning your betrosexuality in poker online:

Why would a woman pretend to be a man?

Many women believe men tend to play more aggressively against women but less so when playing against other men.

Why would a man pretend to be a woman?

Many men believe players loosen up their gameplay when they believe they're playing against a women as they expect the woman to be a poorer player and therefore not know the value, or lack thereof, of the cards they are holding.

As you can undoubtedly see, both misconceptions are poison at a poker online table. You might as well just hand over your chips to the other players than allow yourself to succumb to foolish and stereotypical attitudes about how gender influences poker ability.

That said, as we see it, there are two ways to beat Betrosexuals at the poker online tables: Keep your poker online strategy consistent and gender neutral, or become a Betrosexual yourself!

Playing online poker is fun and complete entertainment. One of the youngest online gambling games, the first version of online poker was offered recently in 1998. Since then, there have been no limits for online poker. Today, no online gambling website is complete without online poker and you cannot imagine any online gambling website that does not offer online poker.

A reason behind the popularity of free online poker is the simplicity of the game. Online poker is fair and transparent. If you are skilled you make money and if you are not...well, you will always get the opportunity to learn. You will find free online poker rooms where you can play online poker for low stakes. Some online poker sites also offer poker free rolls for beginners. Some also provide free money play so that players may practice these skills in various poker games and limits without the risk of losing real money.

Poker has many variations. Even though the rules of play and strategy differ, the hierarchy of winning hands remains the same. Participants of online poker games can range from amateurs to rookies. Depending on the level of skill you have, you can challenge a beginner or even the hardest of professionals. Another good thing about online poker is that you play in your own schedule.

Once you have decided on a poker game, you would need to know the skills. This would not take long because poker is easy. Once you are acquainted with the rules, you need to formulate a strategy by observing the moves of opponents. Ideally, you should watch a few deals and try to relate the moves with the results. Online Poker Site Tips

If you are going to play poker online there are a few online poker site tips that you should be aware of before you play. Playing poker online can be very fun and exciting and can also offer you a chance to win a bit of money. Some online poker site tips include knowing what to look for in a good site, being aware of what you want in a site, and knowing your skill level.

It is important that you follow online poker site tips when you are going to play poker online, and the first is that you know what to look for in a good poker site. You need to be sure to look for a successful site that has many satisfied players. You should also look for a site that offers fees that are reasonable or no fees at all. You should remember that usually if you pay no fee you will probably not be able to win any money. Also be sure to look over the rules when you join a site to be sure you can abide by them.

Another of the online poker site tips is to be sure you know what you want out of an online poker site. If you enjoy playing many styles of poker then you may want a site that offers a variety of games for you to play. If you only have one certain kind of poker you enjoy playing or know how to play then look for a site that specializes in that kind of poker. It is important to find a site that makes you happy and caters to the things you enjoy.

Another tip is to remember what your skill level is when you are looking for a place to play poker online. If you are a beginner you do not want to start out in a site that is made up of people who are very experienced in poker. Often beginners may find it helpful to start playing for free so they can build their skills. On the other hand, if you are a great poker player you want to find a site that will challenge your poker skills. Remembering these online poker site tips can improve your online poker experience.

3D Poker Looks to be the Future of Online Poker Games

Online Poker has been a huge hit over the past several years, and it looks to be that way for time to come. Some of the major Online Poker Rooms have updated their software regularly to improve the game play, but there is only so much you can improve on when dealing with a traditional poker room software.

The latest in Online Poker seems to be 3D Poker, which is growing at a very rapid rate. The best way to describe playing at a 3D Poker is that it's similar to that of an advanced poker video game that you will find on game systems such as a PS3 or an Xbox 360. The main difference with playing 3D Poker on the Internet is that you have the ability to play for real money rather than just for fun.

3D Poker is still far from becoming the standard version of Online Poker, so whether it actually happens or not seems to a ways a way. However, with rate that technology improves, it doesn't seem very unlikely that it could happen in the coming years.

3D Poker offers features and experiences that traditional Online Poker Rooms can't even come close to. For example, at one of the highest rated 3D Poker Rooms, players have the ability to make their own unique character and even send a photo of themselves to the room to make the face of that character look like the photo. While playing, players can make different expressions or emotions to help keep the table exciting and even try to throw off an opponent's potential read.

There are still a couple downfalls to 3D Poker that will likely change as technology improves. The biggest downfall is 3D Poker takes a much faster computer to run the software than the traditional online poker rooms. Another downfall, that some players may or may not care about, is that players won't be able to see as many hands per hour since the actual game play is slightly slower than that of a traditional poker room.

There is one major 3D Poker Room that sticks out above the rest, and that is PKR. They first launched in 2006 and have been improving their software on a regular basis. PKR pretty much offers the best in everything when compared to other 3D rooms. They are even one of the fastest growing online poker rooms on the market today, which is quite the feat considering they are a fairly young room.

Whether someone is interested in 3D Poker or not usually depends on their intent. If a player is looking to play multiple tables at once to see as many hands per hour, then 3D Poker probably is not the best option for them. If someone if looking to add a little excitement to their play, customize their very own unique table character, and even make table expressions like that of real life play, then 3D Poker is probably something that would interest them.

Playing Online Poker vs. Offline Poker Games

Internet poker scare a lot of people. Real casino poker rooms really panicked when the internet gave birth to the first online poker rooms a few years ago. And they were right to be scared because playing online is much easier and people might prefer feeling more comfortable.

The online providers felt at that time the good side of virtual poker. They didn't need actual live dealers, they could perform 24 hours a day and could choose customers from anywhere they liked. This is a reason why some of the real life card rooms were really closed, not being able to compete with the great casinos and now with the internet as well. Some kept on, not wanting to quit, hoping and even spreading rumors that online card rooms are closing very soon, as people don't trust them. But what was not to trust? Many people would rather put their trust in an unemotional program than in a tricky dealer.

The skeptics were very wrong. Virtual poker rooms are the reason why the poker business has flourished again, before them the poker had became an outdated game with a lowering popularity. So, internet poker helps the real life poker too. It saved the industry. Nowadays casinos and poker rooms are more popular than ever before and all this is the work of internet poker.

Online poker can offer services which real poker rooms never did .Lack of capital and fondness made them unable to do this.

Internet poker might be looked at as a school for beginners. They could practice with easy games before risking at tables with high bids. Of course the risk can be just a little one, because the players can take their chances and test their capabilities even for $10.

The internet is also a good source of information when it comes to poker. You can find tips on all poker sites, the pros reveal strategies and secrets of their game, and everyone comes out and helps the beginner that has no idea what to do first.

Virtual poker players can not be stopped to go and try out their skills in a real poker room. This is unavoidable and they all did it at least once. The internet allows the winners to have a much bigger income than in real life poker rooms, because the number of the players is greater. The online business owners have found this way a way to flourish their business and throw a helping hand at their opponents as well.

Another area the internet improved is communication. Information everything that is going on is available from anywhere at any time. So all the activity in the rooms and everything related to poker or your poker can be followed from the computer.

Winning Online Poker - 5 Tips To Start Winning!

A winning poker player will always enter the game with a good poker strategy every time. Most amateur players who think that poker is based on luck always find themselves walking away with less cash. So what should you start learning to become a better online poker player? Other than the technical aspects of the game, below are 5 good poker tips that will definitely help you win more online poker tournaments.

Poker Tip #1 - Take down notes while you play

One good strategy to use while playing online poker is to take down notes. There are several things you will want to make note of. For example, you can track the list of hands that any player shows down. By keeping track of such information, you might be able to see the same players again, thus it is helpful to keep track of what hands they show down and their kind of betting patterns.

Poker Tip #2 - Start by playing off smaller tournaments

If you are looking to gain experience in online poker, it is a good idea to start by playing in smaller tournaments first. There are many reasons why you would do this. Firstly, you can receive a lot of experience while playing with very little money. Another reason is that you'll be able gain more confidence as you dominate the lower level tournaments.

Poker Tip #3 - Schedule your online tournament play

Scheduling your tournaments is a good idea, since there can be so many tournaments online at the same time. You should always leave your schedule open to give yourself enough time to finish your tournaments rather than having to constantly watch the clock.

Poker Tip #4 - Don't play while your mind is somewhere else

You should avoid playing poker while there is something weighing on your mind. Poker is a game that requires your full concentration, so that you can deal with the mental calculations of probabilities in your head, while you try to decipher your opponents' psychology. You will only be able to play your best poker when your mind is entirely focused on the game.

Poker Tip #5 - Only put in cash that you can afford to lose

Many players make the mistake of trying to recoup their earlier losses by trying to chase cards and playing inferior hands. Like all other forms of gambling or investing, increasing your stakes to chase losses is a sure way to lose. Learn to have the discipline to walk away when you realize that you start making bad decisions. Having cash in your account is always better than losing it all to rash decisions, and lets you live to fight another day.

The Secret To Beat Online Poker Tournaments

One could spend days, weeks and even months learning multiple strategies to win online poker tournaments. However, there are a few simple poker strategy secrets to help even a beginning player win online Texas holdem games. This article will explore the secret to beat online poker tournaments.

Online Texas holdem poker tournaments are a great way to gain the valuable experience in winning more at poker. However, many players make the mistake of entering tournaments way below their skill level. For the most part playing poker against other players of lower skill levels ultimately leads to too many suckouts in on-line poker.

The primary reason behind this, is that a majority of unskilled players do not understand the advance poker strategies, such as check raising or trapping. In many cases if you are playing against opponents whom do not possess or understand advanced poker strategy, then you will inevitably run the risk of your opponent calling you down and potentially winning the hand.

The big secret to beat online poker tournaments is to play within your skill level. If you are well versed and adept at multiple strategies, then do not waste them in a $1 tournament or poker freeroll. If, however, on the other hand you do not possess those necessary poker skills, a low limit Texas holdem tournament may be a good place to begin practicing how to use them.

Once you have found the skill level that challenges your game, you want to go even further and develop more advanced poker strategy, by discovering plays that will work against even the best poker players online. Some of these more advanced poker tips and techniques are found only in the higher limit and advanced skill levels of bigger poker tournaments.

Instead of spending countless hours playing at or below your poker level, gain the knowledge of how to play Texas holdem at more advanced levels. This is accomplished by first understanding different skills you need and then experiencing the use of those skills in the right levels. After all, if you continue playing at the lowest levels against some of the most unskilled players, you will never learn to advance your poker game.

Online Poker Room Reviews

Are you a seasoned poker player, but have never tried a virtual game? Maybe it's because you are intimidated by not being able to see the other players at the table. Maybe it is simply a case of being worried about security issues. No matter the reason, it is time you tried your hand at internet poker and to help you along, here are some online poker room reviews to help you choose which site to play at.

Party Poker is among the top rated virtual poker rooms on the internet. Their efforts to get their name out there have certainly been rewarded by all of the players they have brought to their tables. Although they do have quite a large amount of customers, their customer service is nothing to brag about, which is something to think about if money will be involved. Party Poker is presented by the same people that gave us CardPlayer Cruises, so they do know what they are doing. Every year Party Poker hosts a rather large tournament, Party Poker Million; this is a huge draw for many internet poker players.

Poker Stars is known for never having a time when there is not a large tournament going on that anyone can enter. Popular with most of the free roll players, the site offers some entertaining aspects to the programming. Although the interface may look rather chaotic due to the extensive choices that players have for their icon choices, it is still one of the best online poker rooms on the net.

Ultimate Bet may not have the financial status to back it up, but it certainly has a number of well-known players to play against, such as Russ Hamilton, Phil Hellmuth and Annie Duke. One great aspect about this room is that it includes a helpful feature where players can minimize the playing table on the computer screen, allowing them to play multiple tables easier.

Most of the time, Ladbrokes has encounters worth watching, and for added reliability they are linked with the Hilton Group. Sponsoring a substantial European tournament, where they don't take US players, is an annual competition known as the Ladbrokes Poker Tournament. Although their poker room is not extra ordinary, it can still provide one with hours of poker entertainment.

These are only a sampling of the online poker rooms that are on the internet and available for play every hour of every day. Playing poker online, affords you the opportunity to play against a caliber of poker player that may be hard to find where you live.

Online Poker Continues Hiring During Economic Downturn

While the recent economic downturn has forced many companies to lay off workers or slow hiring plans, online poker is bucking the trend.  Not only are many online poker rooms weathering the economic storm well but many are doing record business.

According to Poker Scout, a site that compiles statistics about online poker rooms, online poker traffic is up 40% from a year ago.  Last year was a record year as well.

So how are these poker rooms doing what most other companies can't?  Because they're relatively new and growing.  The poker boom started in the United States where poker was a well known and loved pastime of Americans.  Even when the US passed laws which forced many online poker rooms to leave the US the poker rooms simply shifted their strategy to Europe which was just beginning to catch the poker bug.  And then they moved east to across Eastern Europe and Russia.  In the Americas they forged south and sparked mini poker booms in Central and South America.  And while poker has catching on in places like Macau, Australia, and the Philippines, many see Asia as the next market to really explode with growth to keep the momentum going.

So the net effect is that as the boom plateaus in one market the online poker sites stoke the fires in new markets which keeps the growth healthy.

Obviously as a company grows it typically needs more personnel to handle the increased business.  And many of the jobs being created in the online poker industry are the result of exactly that effect.  But jobs are also created because each new country and/or territory has its own specific needs.

If you're going to expand into Germany then you need German translators, German speaking customer service agents, someone familiar with the local media market, and perhaps even someone to set the German market strategy.

Country by country online poker rooms have had to hire mini-groups to handle the country/territory specific needs of that country.  So in addition to jet getting bigger their organizations are becoming more specialized which means that one person can't write all of the copy or come up with a marketing plan that works everywhere.  They have to defer to specialists in each market who know that market best so they can get the best return on their investments in that market.

So if you've ever considered a career in online poker there are plenty of jobs available.  And don't worry, you don't need to be some sort of poker genius.  There are jobs in every discipline from HR to software engineering.

Here's a sample of jobs recently listed on a poker job Search:

*Google Analytics Expert

*Benelux Country Manager

*Internal Security Analyst

*Technical Project Manager

*German Fraud Investigator

*PR and Events Coordinator

*Director of Web Development

*Polish Customer Service Representative

And that's just a small sample of jobs posted in the last few days.  If you have an interest in working in online poker then you should head on over to a Poker Job Search and see if anything there tickles your fancy.  The pay is usually good and seeing how unstable most "safe" jobs are these days you may be making the best career decision of your life.
