Free Poker Rooms and Free Poker Sites - Learn Here to Make Money

Playing poker whether in a free poker site or free poker room is a fun past time. But within these sites hold the key to playing better poker and making more money online. This article will explain the foundation of looking at your online poker game as a legitimate money making avenue.

Free poker rooms and sites are the best place to learn the game. These sites are also the proving ground to let you know if you need to improve your game, or if you're ready to start winning hands.

When is the right time to move from the free poker rooms and poker sites, to the real money poker sites? This is a fundamental question you should ask yourself, and one that most people don't, as they are overly anxious to start winning hands at real money poker. Resist this temptation until you are sure you're ready. So how do you know when you're ready to move on from the poker rooms and free poker sites.

A good guideline is when you either win six out of ten hands consistently, or are bringing in 30% more money than what you start with four out of seven days. It would be great to have an even larger percentage than this, but this is the baseline.

When you've met either one, or both of these guidelines, then you can confidently move from the poker rooms and sites to the next level-The real money poker sites.

When looking for the real money poker sites, be sure to steer clear of the sites that the top players lurk at. Be smart and choose a real money poker site that you feel you can confidently win at. Watch a few games to determine if this is the site for you.

Now that you are out of the poker rooms and free poker sites and playing real money poker, you need to realize that most online poker players are more aggressive in their betting and playing styles, and you might see some odd combinations that you will have to consider could be on the table.

Playing at the free poker rooms and poker sites is also a great way to study the odds of different combinations that will come up at the table. The free sites are the places that you want to learn and refine your poker game. The real money sites are not the place for this and the players there will quickly jump all over your mistakes if you make them. They will happily take your money as well.

If you enjoy just playing poker for fun and a relaxing good time, then the free poker rooms and sites are the place for you. If, however, you want to make money at online poker, then taking your game seriously and developing your skills is a must. Good luck and study hard.

Buy Poker Supplies Online and Host Your Own Home Tournament

If you love playing poker, there's no better way to enjoy your favorite pastime than to start your own home poker tournament. Poker provides a fun way to spend time with friends, and it brings the atmosphere of "Vegas" into your home without the high risk and party scenes that often characterize casinos. All you need to get started is a little know-how when it comes to poker games and some reliable poker supplies and accessories.

An advantage of starting a home casino is that home tournaments have a fixed cost. The players know exactly what their risks are before playing. Home tournaments are also helpful to beginners because they'll know exactly what they can lose before starting. The atmosphere is more laid back and is often deemed as entertainment versus a high-pressure poker game. Home poker tournaments also enable you as a host to create your own rules, use the poker games you most enjoy, and determine the dollar amounts placed in the prize pool for winnings.

Buying Poker Supplies

Before getting started, you'll need the right poker supplies to set up your game. The type of poker game you'd like to host will determine what supplies will be needed. You might need poker chip sets, playing cards, roulette supplies, card shufflers, craps supplies, a poker table, blackjack supplies, poker strategy books, or other poker products. There are also poker DVDs, poker accessories for your home casino decor, and carousels for poker chips. If there are no retailers in your immediate area for buying poker chips, sets, and other supplies, you can easily go online to buy all the poker products needed to start a tournament.

Things to Consider before Announcing Your New Home Casino

Once you have all your poker supplies and have set up your home casino, be sure to plan how you will operate the game before inviting players. Create a set of rules, determine how much each player will pay, and figure out how the prize pool will be divided for winnings (i.e. first place, second place, and third place). The prize pool is divided based on percentages for various places of winnings. For instance, first place might render 50 percent of the total prize pool amount to the winner while second place might be 30 percent. Third place would be 20 percent.

It's good to put all the rules and prize pool details in writing and make copies for the players so there will be no confusion. You can make the game as fun or as serious as you want, but be sure to find out the laws of your particular state before getting started. Each state varies on home poker laws, so it's good to know all the laws that pertain to your home and to you as a host before starting the tournament.

Also, determine if you want to hold a limit or no limit poker tournament. In a limit tournament, players can make mistakes and still be in the game. They might lose a bet or two, but will still have a chance to play. With a no limit tournament, players can get knocked out of the game quickly with just one mistake. If you're playing mainly for fun, a limit tournament eliminates stress while allowing everyone to play longer.

Determining a Tournament Price

As the host, you can set the poker tournament price to whatever amount you feel will work for the players. You might want to ask each player what they're able to spend beforehand and come up with an average that works for everyone's budget. Also, ask if each player can contribute a small amount to buy food and beverages. Or, you can even ask players to bring their own snacks and drinks.

Starting a home casino or home poker tournament can be exciting and rewarding. Once you've completed your initial setup, you're ready to start contacting friends to set up a game. Be sure and check out online poker supplies and poker accessories to create a fun atmosphere for everyone involved!

Are Poker Cheating Programs Real?

In an effort to take the easy way out, many online poker players look for ways to cheat online poker sites. This has brought on a plethora of poker cheating programs that claim to give you an unfair (and potentially illegal) method to cheat others at the online poker tables. However, is poker cheating programs real and do they work?

In reality, a claim that a poker cheating program will allow you to 'see' your opponents hole cards or know the flop, turn and river before it is revealed is not only science fiction, it is virtually impossible. The reason is that each players cards are ported directly to their individual account and the only way anyone could actually see another persons hole cards is if they were ported into that players computer and intercepted the encrypted 'packet' sent by the poker site to the player.

In addition, the flop, turn and river is not sent to the player's computer until all action has ceased at the table, making it impossible to know those cards before they are revealed. So how do people claim their poker cheating programs really work?

Poker cheating programs typically claim they can determine what cards will come out and what cards are held by your opponent using mathematical suppositions in an attempt to PREDICT the unknown cards in a hand. In reality, this method is no more accurate than you guessing what lottery numbers will come out tonight based on the previous night's numbers.

The truth is that many of the online poker cheating programs are simply junk math and ridiculous hype to make players believe it is possible to see unknown cards. The reality is that the computer programs running the online poker sites are not so easily cracked using those methods of predictability.

On the other hand, there are poker cheating programs that actually work in that they do not rely on the predictability method, rather on the algorithms and subroutines used in the online poker software. Programs which mimic the simulation of the poker site and reveals the algorithms used are plausibly much more accurate than a program that claims it can see the hole cards of your opponent.

In conclusion, online poker cheating software is possible and readily available, although seeing hole cards and unknown cards is not reliable. The only true way to beat the poker sites and win at poker is if one knows the code, the algorithms, and the subroutines used in the poker software.

What is the Poker Deposit Bonus?

The concept of poker deposit bonus is one that has caught on greatly in popularity in recent times, especially among online poker enthusiasts.

As the concept of poker deposit bonus becomes more and more popular, several meanings are getting attached to it - though for the most part, it is taken to refer to money which the various poker sites add to the accounts of the people who deposit money with them for poker playing purposes. This the poker sites do either to encourage more people to play poker with them, and also to attract new poker players to their sites, seeing that some of these online poker signup bonuses are paid to new players who deposit money into their poker accounts for the first time.

For the most part, the poker deposit bonus is quoted both as a percentage and a dollar amount. And for the poker deposit bonus to be attractive, it has to be outrageous. Something like a 20% poker deposit bonus, for instance, simply won't wash with most people seeking to play poker - who on the most part tend to be highly ambitious people with big dreams and seeking to win 'big-time' and get the money to make their dreams come true. If they wanted modest returns, after all, they'd be in forex or in the stocks. Poker is for the big boys, who can take big risks and earn big bucks. So for most part, the minimum acceptable poker signup bonus is 100% - where a potential poker player who deposits something like $100 into their account gets another $100 to play with (to make $200) added by 'the house' into their online poker account. For the most part though, 200% seems to be the highest available poker signup bonus.

Take note though, as mentioned, that there tends to be an explicitly mentioned dollar amount cap to most (virtually all, in fact) of the poker signup bonuses. Some sites offering a poker deposit bonus will, for instance, state that that they are giving a 100% or a 110% percent bonus, but quickly add a rejoinder that they are doing so only up to $100, $200 and so on, with very few (if any) going anywhere above $500 on the maximum side.

It is also noteworthy that a number of these sites offering a poker signup bonus tend to limit it geographically, so that for instance, the bonus is available only to players within given geographical jurisdictions, like the United States only. Thankfully, the number of sites in this category (those who limit their poker deposit bonus geographically) are in the minority.

The question as to whether the poker signup bonus is a worthwhile bonus depends on whether or not you believe the adage which says something to the effect that the 'house always wins' in gambling circles. If you do, then you take the poker deposit bonus offered to you knowing that the people offering it to you are bound to make much more from you in the long run. And if you don't believe that the 'house always wins' or have found a unique way of winning against the house - then the poker signup bonus is something you should make a run for.

No Limit Poker - What You Need to Know

No limit poker, more specifically no limit Texas Holdem, is the most popular poker game in the world today. Millions of people play it every day for fun and for real money at both live games and at online poker sites.

A big part of poker's popularity comes from the fact that anyone can make money with it. Most hobbies cost money but if you become a skilled Texas Holdem player, you can actually make money on a consistent basis. Some of the best poker players in the world bring home more than a million dollars a year.

Granted, these people are the exception but it still gives poker that aura of "anything's possible." If you perform well in the right no limit poker tournament, you can win a few hundred thousand dollars over the course of just several hours. Even though it doesn't happen often, everyone knows it's possible with the right skills and a little luck. And that's exactly why no limit Texas Holdem is so popular.

Limit vs. No Limit Poker

Texas Holdem can be played in either a no-limit format or a fixed limit format. In fixed limit, the size of each bet is limited to a certain amount. For example, in $5/$10 fixed limit, the bets in the early stages of the hand must be made in increments of $5 and the bets later on in the hand must be made in increments of $10.

In no limit poker, there are no constraints on the size of the bets you can make. You can bet all the money you want, whenever you want. The ability to bet any amount of money adds an extra psychology dimension that you won't find in fixed limit Holdem.

The ability to put pressure on your opponents with big bets, or even the threat of big bets, changes the game completely. You'll see no limit Holdem players use all sorts of tricks in an attempt to control the size of the pot. The difficult part is manipulating the size of the pot without letting your opponents know that that's exactly what you're doing.

A Game of Information

No limit Texas Holdem is a game of information. You're constantly trying to gain information on what your opponents hold so that you can decide whether to put money in the pot or fold. It's a simple concept to understand but it is incredibly difficult to implement in the real world.

The thing about Texas Holdem is that it strikes a perfect balance between information and a lack of information. You get to see five community cards but your opponents' hole cards are always hidden. In the end, you get a gist of what your opponent might have, but can never quite tell for sure.

No Limit Poker on the Internet

In the age of the internet, it was only a matter of time before no limit poker made its way online. In the beginning, poker was only played for fake chips at cheesy websites. Eventually someone got the idea to create a poker site for real money and the rest is history.

Despite the success of online poker, some people remain skeptical of the safety and fairness of playing for real money on the internet. It's completely understandable but online poker is so mainstream now that it's just as safe doing your Christmas shopping online. If you stick to large, reputable sites, you'll be fine every time.

In an industry dominated by trust, the top poker sites treat security like gold. If a poker site loses its reputation as safe and fair, it's going to lose most of its business. Without having to hire staff or pay for a building, online poker rooms are insanely profitable. It just wouldn't make sense to try to steal players' money when you're already bringing in millions of dollars a month as a well-known poker site.

In addition to that, these poker sites have to be licensed by the government jurisdictions in which they operate. These licenses require the poker sites to submit to regular security checks and adhere to certain standards of customer service.

If you'd like to give no limit poker a shot, I recommend you give PlayersOnly Poker a try. It's one of the softest poker sites on the internet. Check out my PlayersOnly Poker Review for more information and to learn how to earn a $1000 deposit bonus.

Strip Poker - Making A Boring Game More Hot!

First, you may want to know about the type of people that play strip poker. According to surveys the game is most popular amongst 18 - 30 year old males! Although as you'd expect, there are some females who play strip poker too! Students with more liberal attitudes are the most likely people to be found playing strip poker, indeed, in almost every university and college around the western world there is sure to be a student strip poker game at the weekend.

More mature adults do play strip poker too, although in general it is played in smaller groups of between four and six friends, often married couples play the game for amusement in the privacy of their own home.

Origins of strip poker.

There is very little information about the history of strip poker. It gained worldwide notoriety in the mid 1900s and through the fifties, sixties and seventies gained an increasingly large following, particularly amongst students and those under the age of 30. An exact date for the invention of strip poker is unknown, rumors suggest more liberal female poker players would remove items of clothing if they lost all their money and that drunken males would literally lose the shirt off their back. Some suggest strip poker was one of the first poker games, played before money was involved, although this not generally taken seriously.

Why do people play strip poker?

There are two main reasons why strip poker fans play the game.

1, It's played amongst friends infrequently, nobody gets completely naked and it's seen as good fun, perhaps played after an evening out where alcohol has been involved.

2, It's played more regularly with sexual intentions. Swingers parties have been known to organize strip poker games as an "ice breaker" to the evening before moving on to more explicit past times. The game here is certainly not at the fore front of the players minds.

In each scenario, the emphasis is of a light hearted nature, whether it be the start of an evening of the ending, those willing to take part do so for the sheer fun of it.

Strip poker rules.

The basic rules of any strip poker game involve the losers removing items of clothing whilst the winners get to see their naked, or semi naked friends. Generally no money is involved and the game is always played in the spirit of good fun, although it is not for the prudish!

There are several ways in which a strip poker game can be organized, the most popular involves:

A minimum of four players.

A standard deck of cards (52 cards).

A good location to play at (a table with good visibility).

A simple poker game such as 5 card stud or Texas Hold Em is a great strip poker game. After the hand is over, the loser should remove an item of clothing. When one person is completely naked, they should re-clothe themselves and the game can start again. Needless to say, the worst poker players will be the ones getting naked most of the time, so guys, invite girlfriends who have little or no poker knowledge and girls, study up on poker before you accept an invitation.

Strip poker, so long as played in private with consenting adults is generally a legal past time worldwide, however, if you are unsure you should check up on your local laws before organizing a game.

Places to play strip poker.

Almost always indoors, the student dorm' room or perhaps a couples home/apartment. If you are single and perhaps less inclined to be invited to a strip poker party of less willing to attend one, there are strip poker rooms on the internet too. These are almost always pay-per-view websites and you'll be playing against a model one-on-one, if you don't have a webcam then it's not difficult to cheat, although we suspect the intention is for the surfer to see the beautiful model strip until naked.

If you do have a webcam then you may be able to arrange a strip poker game with your webcam friends, however, we advise caution! If your friends are more prudish in nature they may take offence to your suggestion.

Remember to enjoy yourself when playing strip poker. Do not take the game seriously and try and play it in good spirits. So go have fun.

Online Poker - Looking Back

Poker is there in the market for over 200 years. However, online poker is a recent player in the world of online casino and gambling. It was in the year of 1998 that the first online poker room came into existence. The only online poker room during that time was Planet Poker.

Slowly with the passage of time, more online poker rooms were introduced in the online casino field. The rake structure that was fixed initially was from 5 percent to $3 max rake. This rake structure is more or less constant even today. It was in 1999, that Paradise Poker entered the scenario.

Poker Spot that was introduced in 2000 started facing some troubles later regarding collection of deposits of the players from the credit. Therefore, it went out of the scene. In the year 2001, two online poker firms made their entries. These were Party Poker and Poker Stars.

Poker Stars earned popularity because of its online poker tournaments. Paradise Poker happened to be the dominant player till 2003. It was in this year that Party Poker made its launch of television advertising campaign. Online poker gained immense popularity with every passing day. It started to grow heavily.

The advertising campaign of Party Poker became a big hit. Besides, their launching of the Party Poker Million earned them huge success in the marketing field. This helped to take the network of poker to a much elevated level. This network is known to represent nearly half of all the online poker market.

Chris Moneymaker created a big buzz in the online poker industry. After qualifying for the main event of World Series of Poker, he became successful in outlasting a field of 839 entrants. This happened to be the biggest World Series of Poker during that time. He bagged cash money of $2.5 million.

In the year 2003, came into the scenario a website providing information on poker. In 2004, online poker games reached its peak. 5 Sources For Quality Poker Information

Sometimes most popular search engines disappoint us very much. How come the best search engine we use every day suggests us pages that have nothing to do with the information we are looking for? The first places at the search result page are occupied by websites that are absolutely useless and have no actual value. The web garbage is all over the place so we have to spend some time to choose between the gold and the ashes.

Every market has a part of information which is absolutely useless. The markets with big money involved usually have more garbage than the others. The poker information market is one of them. Just by entering a simple keyword in the search engine gets millions of pages. In most cases the old trustworthy websites just don't show up.

How can then people get quality poker information?

Source No. 1. Reliable and long-living poker information websites such as PokerNews.com and Pokerlistings.com provide information which is useful to all the poker players, fans and people who are simply interested in poker issues. Also any other poker-related website which has been around for a considerable amount of time usually provides quality information. Some of them use the popular magazine format. The best-known of the kind are Cardplayers, Bluff magazine and Poker In Europe (European poker issues). These websites have been on the market for quite a long time, therefore there is no need to worry about their credibility and information quality.

Source No. 2. The main principle of information search is "Ask". If you do not know something, just raise the question at some busy community site and you will get the answer. 2+2 is the biggest poker forum where people may ask any poker-related question and get full directions and explanations. Some of the other big poker forums are Cardschat, PocketFives, FullContactPoker etc. There is no need for asking the same question in all of them. To participate in at least two communities is more than enough.

Asking questions at the poker social networks such as PokerSpace, Railbirds, PokerDIY, PokerNations is also a good idea. They are quite busy with advanced poker players and community members eager to help people in search for quality poker-related information.

Source No. 3. Some industry news and views are best described in the most popular poker blogs. A lot of professional poker players write their blogs, but usually they are associated with some big poker brands, so the commercial aspect is also very important once we speak about quality information. The most popular and trustworthy poker blogs are Tao of Poker, Guinness & Poker, Las VegasVegas Blog etc. The blogs provide unofficial information, which is based on the opinion of the writer, therefore the reputation of the blogger guarantees the information quality. Not the website's credibility, nor its appearance on Google.

Source No. 4. The independent encyclopedia edited by thousands of people is the perfect source for the unbiased poker information as well. Wikipedia is the most popular information source on the internet, however some of the alternatives such as Google Knol, Citizendum, Encyclopedia.com (collection of published encyclopedias and dictionaries) should also be taken into consideration. Another interesting and trustworthy source is Answers.com which provides the information in Questions&Answers style.

Source No.5. If one is looking for poker industry news, the best source is the general news magazines and newspapers online - New York Times, CNN, BBC, MSNBC, FOXnews etc. These sources are very selective and provide only the most important news from the poker industry. Sometimes they are too selective and do not cover all the local issues, therefore it is suggested to search for the poker info using the Google News or Yahoo News search, which gather the information from a lot of trustworthy sources by using certain keywords.

It is always useful to have at least 5 different information resources for a person with the basic information selecting abilities. A larger amount of sources could be used by those who can easily detect the information which should be trusted and the one that should not.

However, there is also a need to highlight the information resources that should not be considered trustworthy. They usually contain a lot of useful information, but it must be extracted from a pile of garbage. The unreliable information sources are:

Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and other biggest global social networks, because they are widely used my the marketing people to promote their brands and deals
Press release and article directories are also used for marketing purposes, as it is impossible to check the quality of every submitted piece of information.
Link directories usually contain links to the garbage sites which are submitted in order to gain the value for some small ugly website with few pages and questionable quality content.
Questions&Answers directories answer all the questions about poker, but resources of these answers are of a very poor quality. In most cases they are used for marketing some brands and deals.
These online destinations are very popular and it does not mean that people searching for poker information should avoid or abandon them. These sources have valuable content which only needs to be found. Information search is a skill just like fast typing, wood cutting, sewing, knitting or any other and must be developed over the period of time. Teachers should provide such classes at school so that children could learn searching and information selection skills.

Top 5 Best Poker Books

Poker is one of most popular past-times in many parts of the world, and to help participants learn the basic of the game (for beginners) or to help the participants 'up' their game (for those who are through with the basics), various poker books have been written. And the outreach of these books has been quite successful, with many people who are getting into poker nowadays confessing that they were introduced to poker through books.

So popular are these poker books, in fact, that a number of sites entirely dedicated to reviewing them have been coming up in the recent past.

There seems to be concurrence among the reviewers in these sites devoted to reviewing poker books that the best book on poker written in modern times is probably 'Harrington on Hold 'Em' by Dan Harrington and Bill Robertie, which comes in two volumes, namely 'Harrington on Hold 'Em' Volume 1 and 2. Dan Harrington, the author of these books himself is a former WSOP main event champion and a widely recognized authority on poker, and he is assisted in authoring the books by Bill Robertie (who is a former backgammon champion).

Barry Greenstein's Ace on the River is another great book on poker, and there are some reviewers of poker books who actually place it above Harrington's on Hold 'Em. Of course, the critics of Barry Greenstein's Ace on the River point out that while it is an incontestably great poker book, its is only targeted at advanced players of the game, and a poker beginner (who is also the person most likely to be looking into poker books anyway) might have a difficult time trying to make sense of the information presented in it. Still, Barry Greenstein's Ace on the River is considered by many as the ultimate guide to professional poker.

Then there is Michael Konik's aptly named 'Telling Lies and Getting Paid' - which many people, especially pros, looking for deeper meaning in their poker find inspiring through its numerous poker stories, which also give the possibility of enhancing one's strategy, without getting too technical. While not a step by step instructional on poker, 'Telling Lies and Getting Paid' is a book anyone who knows what poker is all about will find thoroughly entertaining.

Anthony Holden's 'Bid Deal' is yet another book which warrants a place among the top five best poker books of all times. Originally published in 1990, 'Big Deal' is actually Anthony Holden's personal memoir on life as a professional poker player, Anthony himself having been one of the topmost poker players of the 1990s. Again, while 'Big Deal' is definitely not a step by step introduction to poker, it is a book which an experienced poker player can find deeper meaning (as well as entertainment) in, and also a book which a poker beginner can find the next direction to take their game to.

Besides these top 5 best poker books, other books on the subject that are also worth of special mention include Lou Krieger's 'Holdem Excellence,' Matthew Hilger's 'Internet Texas Holdem' (for online poker buffs) and Doyle Brunson's 'Super System 2.'

The 3 Most Popular Poker Strategies You Must Avoid

There are three accepted poker strategies that you simply most avoid if you want to win a poker tournament. I am sure you have read each one of the following poker gems many times, and now believe them to be poker truths. Unfortunately they are just plain wrong if you want to win.

Poker Strategy #1: "Play tight early in a no limit poker tournament."

There are many ways to play in the early rounds of a poker tournament, yet you may have read this poker strategy most often. Why is this poker strategy so popular?

Think about it. If you got knocked out early, would you trust this guy's opinion?

Unfortunately, the worst poker advice for no limit tournaments is to play tight early. Poker is about gambling. Poker tournaments are about winning. Embrace the risk in the game because you need chips to survive those bad beats. You are not going to outplay the luck in the game.

The right strategy early in a no limit tournament is to put at least 20% of your chips at risk with drawing hands like suited connectors, so you can win big pots.

Remember this: No one has ever folded their way to victory. Never.

Poker Strategy #2: "You need to be selectively aggressive to win a poker tournament."

Oh my, is this nonsense or what? Being aggressive is bad, but being selectively aggressive is good.

I guess that key word "selectively" means that if you are aggressive and win you are being selective. But if you are aggressive and lose you are not being selective enough.

What if you go card dead for an hour and are bleeding out your chips? Are you being too selective by not being aggressive?

Forget this nonsense strategy. You need to be aggressive to win a poker tournament. You need to accumulate chips. Raise and re-raise by making the right plays.

Poker Strategy #3: "It depends."

This has got to be the biggest joke of poker advice ever. It depends is so popular it's become a pseudo strategy.

But what's the winning play in a given situation? It depends...

I think we should put "it depends" next to "Depends" diapers..it's all wet.

The leaking is over! Make the right play at the right time.

Of course sometimes in poker you make the right play at the wrong time. Yeah, you take a bad beat. But other times you will be wrong and make the wrong play at the right time. Yeah, you put a bad beat on your opponent.

Don't think "it depends." Ask yourself what is the right play at that moment. And if you still are not sure, err on the side of being aggressive by asking yourself the following:

"What move will put fear in the heart and mind of my opponent?"

It's time to follow the winning strategies for no limit poker tournaments. The Poker pros know them and you should too.

Online Poker Confidence - Two Secrets For Building It

This article is for intermediate or advanced online poker players who desire to move to the next level by building up their confidence.

Have you sometimes felt like after joining an online poker table, the other players seemed to know if you had a strong hand or not? If you started betting with a monster hand, everyone else would fold. Or if you had a medium strength hand, your opponent would bet heavily, forcing you to fold.

Do not despair, this is a very common feeling. And the most common reason is that you are not using the tools that your opponents are using against you, putting you at a disadvantage. There are all sorts of online poker aids and it is far from obvious to know which ones are really useful and powerful.

The most potent poker tool if you play on the Web is the head up display, a.k.a. HUD. These incredibly sharp programs create a transparent overlay over the poker table that shows your opponents' playing style and tendencies. There are two kinds of HUDs, the ones relying on a local database and the ones based on a large remote hand histories database.

Local HUDs are extensions or parts of programs such as Hold'em Manager or PokerOffice. These software collect all the hands that you have played online and reorganize the data in order to extract the characteristics of all players that you faced in the past. Looseness/tightness and passiveness/aggression are measured and displayed over each player. So that you know instantly what type of player you are facing.

Most people already know and use such products. The first secret is that if you want to gain an additional advantage, you can buy data mined hand histories. By doing so, you can add information about players that you never faced before. So the next time that you sit next to GoldenDonk33 for instance, you may immediately know that he is a dangerous shark.

Alternatively if you had not had such information, it may have cost you a few stacks before you have played enough hands for your local database to get updated and to show this player's tendencies. Note that there are vendors that sell hand histories from poker rooms such as pokerstars or full tilt poker, which frown upon such practice. But there is nothing they can do as it is illegal for them to scan your private computer information in order to detect such purchase.

This first secret is thus a method for enhancing your local poker tracker database by purchasing hand histories, if you already use such software or if you decide to start using them. In the same range of poker tools, and this is the second secret, there is a product that is a remote poker tracker. This product brings the entire concept to a new level.

This program is called poker-edge. What poker-edge does is collect millions of hands over the Internet by using an army of enslaved computers whose only task is to connect to one among one hundred different online poker rooms and to record hand histories. The end result of poker-edge massive data mining activity is that this helps generate a very information-rich HUD for you. But you do not need to maintain a local poker tracker software or to buy hand histories. All such background work is done automatically for you. The final result is the same except that poker-edge players' stats are massive.

It is a matter of choice if you decide to have an enhanced local poker database or if you prefer to have an automated remote HUD. But if you fail to use at least one of the two secrets for building confidence at online poker, then you are nearly certain to wonder at times how come it seems that your opponents know the strength of your hands. But you don't.

Oliver deMetz is a successful online poker player. He reviews and tests online poker software and tools. He has tested datamined hand histories database and remote poker stats database

HORSE Poker Strategy

HORSE is an acronym that is leading to the initial letter of 5 different poker variations. This way you will have the opportunity to play all the 5 types of online poker game in just one tournament or game. In order to be a good player at HORSE poker, you must be a good player at all 5 online poker variations. This is why in this article we are going to present you the strategies of all 5 games that you must always take into consideration before you actually start playing the game.

The strategy that must be used in order to win at HORSE poker, must be a set of combined strategies that you will use for each and every of the five games. Anyway most online poker players are finding this online poker game to be very difficult, since they will have to adjust to the new type of game very fast. The stakes at HORSE poker are raised very often and in case you are looking to try something new this is certainly going to be more challenging, HORSE is definitely the game that you should go for.

HORSE is an online poker game that is very popular among professional online poker players. This game is rarely played by beginners since they will find it very difficult to switch from one game to another and to switch from the no limit game to the pot limit game. The moment you will want to go ahead and play HORSE poker you will need to know all the rules from the games, including the less popular Razz and 7 Card Stud Eights or Better. For many players out there, this is one of the most difficult games of poker that is currently available online.

Most players that are currently playing poker online have a good idea on what the rules of Texas Hold'em, Omaha and 7 Card Stud are. But when it comes or Razz and 7 Card Stud Eights or Better, things are a little bit different. These games are not as popular as the first 3 mentioned, so many of the players might not be very familiar with the rules and the strategies, this is why we suggest that you take a little bit more time to check them out. The moment you will be able to master these two games better, your chances of winning will increase drastically.

Texas Hold'em

Most players will be very familiar with the Texas Hold'em game since it's the most popular online poker game in the world, which is currently played in online and offline poker rooms. The no limit games are the most popular when it comes to online tournaments. And the moment you will start playing the pot limit you must understand exactly the role of draws, pots and bluffs.

Omaha Hi-Lo

The Omaha H/L is an online poker game that is similar to Texas Hold'em. The difference is that you must play only 2 of the community cards that are dealt. This means that you will have to employ just two different cards for the high and the low since usually a good high hand will have to split the best low. This way the best low hand that you can get will be A 2 3 4 and 5. A good strategy for the Omaha H/L will be to hold a hand like A A 2 3 or A K 2 3, that are both suited for Aces.

Razz Poker

Razz is very similar to the 7 Card Stud online poker variation where the difference is that it's going to be played for the low. You will need to use a strategy that will get you a hand like A 2 3 4 5, which can assure you to win. Also the strategy that you must use for Razz should have a lot of discretion and caution from your part. In order to qualify to the next round, you will need to have 5 low cards. Since this online poker game is not as popular as the others, make sure that you understand exactly what you have to do and the rules of Razz, since this is one of the weakest points for many online HORSE poker players.

7 Card Stud Strategy

The strategy that you need to use in order to play HORSE poker must endorse the strategies of high card stud poker games. This means that you will have to hold the highest cards and a hand like A A A will certainly help you win. The strategy that you will use is similar to the one used at Texas Hold'em. One of the safest hands that you can get is 2 pair, which is currently one of the average winning hands in the 7 Card Stud games. You should always keep an eye on what the other opponents are doing, and watch for the cards that are already exposed.

7 Card Stud Eights or Better

For this game the HORSE poker strategy must be concentrated on playing for the lows. This online poker is also known as the 7 Card Stud Hi/Lo. A basic hand that you must have at this online poker game should be a low hand with 5 - 8 cards or less so that you will be able to qualify to the next level. A good starting hand at 7 Card Stud Eights or Better is holding A 2 3 or A A 2. You must try to reach a straight flush with the lowest cards possible, this will certainly going to help you win.

Want to Win a Seat to the World Series of Poker Game?

If a serious actor considers being nominated for an Academy Award the peak of his performance, a poker player believes that winning a seat at the World Series of Poker Game is the icing on his cake. That's why poker players do their best to achieve this feat - in whichever way possible.

Here's how it is at the World Series of Poker Game. More than eight thousand poker players compete for the extravagant amount in the pot. This is eighty million dollars in prize and prize money. Sometimes this may even be more.

Good thing there's the Internet. A lot of poker related sites know that poker players would want to get the chance to be at the World Series of Poker Game. That is why these online poker sites encourage the dream by providing buy-in, hotel and travel expenses to Las Vegas to winners.

These poker-related sites also know that novice players would want to be at the World Series of Poker Game too, despite their being new. By being there, these players might even learn more about the game and gain more tricks in order for them to improve their hand after each session. This is why the poker-related sites encourage them by providing prized packages for amateur players which are won at online tournaments.

Webmasters of poker-related sites know that novice players dream to compete against professional poker players. Thus with a little luck, amateur players can be included in the satellite which allows them to go head-to-head with the professionals. If they win, then that means they take home a huge amount of money. They can also say that they beat out this professional poker player in a game. His or her life will be changed forever.

Satellites have been mentioned. These are important to qualify at the World Series of Poker Game. Players refer to the guide in the satellites in order to know the best poker websites and online tournaments that provide them with the best chance to win seats at the World Series of Poker Game. It actually makes sense because poker is the sole sport that allows the amateurs to compete head on against the professionals - and their bases are leveled. There's no advantage from the professional.

This pitting up of novices and professionals was actually proven by the historical poker event that happened in 2003. Chris Moneymaker, an accountant, came from Tennessee and won the World Series of Poker Game. What makes his win amazing was that he was an amateur. He also got a seat at the World Series of Poker Game for only $40. To think, the entry to the main event is $10,000. This is where the satellite tournament system comes in.

As long as the poker player does well in the satellite tournaments, then he has proven himself worthy to compete with the professionals be it online or at the World Series of Poker Game. Look at it this way: an actor feels accomplished whenever he shares scenes with a veteran actor. That's the same with poker players. They feel so accomplished whenever they play against a professional player. What more if they win?

Free Poker Money and Poker Bonus Codes

One of the best options for online poker rooms to attract players is to make sure they also provide free money. There are some conditions though that you would need to follow in order to be able to cash out your free poker money. Usually, cash offered can become an investment in this site and this can also be cashed out after you have placed some bets in the poker site. With online poker, you can do a lot of things and you can really earn money if you are determined to do so. There are various opportunities for you to save and be able to improve your winnings.

Many online poker sites have incentives of giving out poker bonus to its players. This is to allow them to be able to cope up and vamp up their accounts that they can use in betting through different games. Poker is one of the most popular games played online with people who have the option to either play this online or through land based casinos. There are also times where poker sites do give out free poker money as a way to attract and make interested players give in their bets in the poker site itself. This can provide a very good way in making some money through online poker sites.

A poker bonus code is also provided to the players in order for them to increase money in their bank roll. This will also be a good way in improving their status or their standing in the online poker site. Usually status in poker can reach to as high as becoming a Poker pro. For this, there are two different ways in where bonuses are being offered to the poker rooms. One can either be obtained as for deposit poker bonuses which would need you to deposit money first before you will be able to get the poker bonus code. The other one can also be of no deposit poker bonuses that will require you though to out in real money in your poker account.

Free poker bonus money from these two different types can also be divided into several sub definitions for a poker bonus code. But there can also be a point where what you can mostly get is the loyalty bonus without having to register or pay for money. Although there are only just a few sites who offer this, but there is still a good chance that you can get this offer. So you can actually make a lot of money and increase your chances of winning using a poker bonus code or free poker money. All you need to decide on which online poker site you would need to choose to get these kinds of incentives.

Overview of Poker Training Software

The number of poker training software programs on offer has been on the increase in the recent past, perhaps in response to the great demand for such software. The great demand for poker learning software is itself probably a result of the surge in poker's popularity in recent past, as the automation of the game through online playing platforms takes it to new places it had been unheard of or unpopular before.

The popularity of the poker training software can also be attributed to the fact that poker is a game where 'strategy meets luck' so that a given player's knowledge of the mechanics of the game plays as great a role (if not more) as the player's luck in determining whether or not they win a particular game or not.

Most of the available poker training software is typically designed in a modular manner, starting with modules teaching the most basic of poker rules and moving onto modules teaching what can be termed as 'intermediate' poker rules, and onto what can only be termed as advanced poker strategies which only the pros can relate to. Such modular approach to poker training aligns the poker training with best practice in education, where training is supposed to move from the learner from the 'known to the unknown' in a gradual manner. This way, the learner does not get overwhelmed with the learning, and neither is there opportunity for the learner to miss out on some important elements of the game - as advancement to the next module requires one to have knowledge of previous modules.

Another common feature with most of the available poker training software is opportunity for simulated playing, which introduces the practical element into poker training. What happens in such simulated playing is that the (potential) poker player using the poker learning software is made to play against some bots (software robots) that have been programmed to understand the logic of poker - and which, perhaps in a show of just how advanced artificial intelligence has become - have been known to win against some of the people we consider the best poker players. Of course, for the sake of learning, the bots employed in the learning versions of poker software tend to be programmed to play at a lower (but still quite challenging) skill level, so that the person trying to learn poker through their aid does not end up losing every game they play against the bots - and giving up on poker altogether; or on the other extreme, end up winning every game they play against the bot which could see them get bored, in case they are people who love a challenge - as most poker players do.

In spite of the considerable effort that goes into developing it, a good number of the programs that make poker training software are actually downloadable for free from the Internet. Even the poker learning software programs that are for sale typically go for what can only be described as nominal amounts, so anyone who is keen to undergo software-based poker training can do so without worrying too much about the cost.

Poker Chip Sets - 101 - All You Need to Know About Poker Chip Sets

Materials Used in Poker Chips Sets

There are many reasons for looking into everything you may want to know about poker chip sets. For some, it may all have to do with simple fascination with the colors and many designs that can be found in these poker chips, while for others, it may be part of training and background information work on the much larger topic of playing poker. But whatever the reason, here are the basics.

Begin with the type of poker chips to use. Depending on the price range and the quality of poker chips which you want to own, there are three main categories to choose from. First are the plastic chips, which are much cheaper and lighter. These are often used by novices or home players who play mostly for fun and not for profit. If you want an upgrade, however, you can choose between metal core chips and clay chips. Both are used widely in casinos and are often part of most serious player's equipment. These are both composite chips, where the metal core chips are rimmed with plastic, while the clay chips have other materials incorporated into the clay mixture to make them more durable. These two are most often used in casinos and are part of the more serious and long-time player's equipment.

Different Weights and Designs

Weight and design are two other factors to consider in poker chip sets. As any serious poker player will tell you, every component of a poker game should be calibrated to fulfill an end goal, and to help in the game. In the case of these chips, they are often not only tools for representing money, but also help in creating the "poker face," and are often employed by players to relieve stress. An example of this is when a player rolls chips in between fingers or clicks them to create a psychological effect on the opponent. Hence, weight and design matters, because these add new dimensions to the over-all gaming experience.

There are a variety of weights to choose from in these chips. In general, the weight range is from 7.5 grams to 13.5 grams for each poker chip. The plastic chips are also the lightest, while the metal core and clay chips occupy the higher end of the weight spectrum. Most players are satisfied with an 11.5 gram chip, and are the types of metal core and clay chips with the greatest design options. However, you can also opt for heavier chips, although these are often more expensive. In terms of design, there are three standard options to grace your chip, which are the diamond, the dice, and the suited design. Some manufacturers are willing to imprint special, made-to-order patterns, although these are often much more expensive. There are also novelty chip sets that have themes varying from spaceships imprinted on the chips, to images of Elvis Presley and his outrageous outfits adorning a fans' chip set.

Colors and Corresponding Denominations

Colors play a vital role in any poker game. Some poker chip sets will have denominations imprinted on them, since there is a general rule between chip color and the monetary equivalent. However, some players prefer poker chips which do not have denominations imprinted on them, so as to be able to designate values depending on the game. After all, not all poker games work with money, and some states ban gambling with money, so some players substitute the price with a bottle of beer or other prize. But in general, there are two sets to choose from, each with their accompanying standard values.

There are five basic poker chip colors, with the black chips holding the greatest denomination at $100, followed by Green with $25, Blue with $10, Red with $5, and the white chips which are worth only a dollar. For the complete color scheme available in poker chip sets, however, there is the brown chip which is worth a whopping $5000, followed by light blue chips worth $2000, burgundy chips which are worth $1000, purple chips which go for $500, pink chips which are worth $250, black chips worth $100, orange chips worth $50, green chips worth $25, grey chips worth $20, blue chips worth $10, red chips worth $5, yellow chips worth $2, and finally, the white chips which are still worth a dollar.

How Many Chips to Use

Now that you have determined which material, weight, and design should go with your poker chip sets, and you have also determined what each color in the set corresponds to in terms of denomination, the next step is to determine how many poker chips you should buy. There are many factors to consider, such as your budget. With more expensive chips, you may want to use a lesser numbers of chips. However, in general, the ideal number of chips to deal each player is 35 chips as a minimum, but for the best gaming experience, try to give each player as many as a hundred chips to keep the stakes nice and high, and to let the game roll throughout the entire night. In other words, try to have at least 800 poker chips for a table of 8 to 10 players. 600 poker chips will do for 7 to 8 member tables, while 5 to 6 players can settle for 400 chips, and 200 chips will be enough for a table of 4 or less.

With this in mind, you can move on to the last step in poker chips, and this is probably the most important: choosing the game and having fun. There are a variety of poker games to choose from, and one of the most popular is the Texas Hold 'Em Poker Game. Complete the fun with plentiful supplies of finger foods and drinks to keep the spirit alive throughout your poker party and you can also complement your chip set with a poker table, a dealer button, dice, and a good deck of cards.

Should You Play Poker As a Full Time Pro?

You are a winning poker player. You have made a good amount of money for a period of time and you look at the professionals who live the dream lifestyle and ask yourself why you still go to your 9 till 5 job when you make more money from playing poker. Your boss is on your back and you want the easy life. After all, you are making enough money so it's a no brainer! Or is it? It is certainly a compelling argument and I would hazard a guess that there is not a poker player in the world who has not dreamed of doing nothing but play poker instead of working. Let us discuss the pros and cons of living life as a professional poker player. This might be the most important article you ever read.

The Good Bits

You get your freedom and certainly do not underestimate this. If you are a young player and are coming straight out of education and have discovered a knack of winning cards then I would advise every player to take a job for one year and then you will fully be able to appreciate what you have. You can get up when you want, play when you want and do not answer to anyone but yourself. This can also be some of the worst things about being self-employed though. If you have the discipline, financial money management, and of course the poker skills this may be a viable option for you to bring in your money from exclusively playing poker. Getting a few solid years of cash game profits behind you may buy you a property outright you could not have dreamed of during normal employment. Even if you eventually move back into work, playing poker may give you opportunities you otherwise would not have had access to.

During periods of good profits life will feel great. You will get to play the game you love, and you are winning and have money to play with. Can life get better?

The Not So Good Bits

Every player hits a downswing after a period of playing where every card is the one you hope not to see and you are outdrawn by the poker sites so much you are tempted to enter the "it's all rigged" discussions on the poker websites. As fun as it is to have your freedom, you will have to put in the long hours to grind out your profit. You also need to win! If you lose this may feel like a dagger to the heart as you have no other money coming in. Losing will hurt a lot more when this is your actual wealth you are hurting. Poker should always remain aside from your feelings towards life and this is extremely difficult to maintain a healthy attitude when winning and losing affects your life so acutely. It is very easy to lose perspective.

Any holiday you take will be unpaid, and you will not get the benefit of a pension, sick pay or any other perk that comes with most reasonably paid employments. There is also the satisfaction aspect of poker. When you win, you are actually beating other players out of money and not contributing anything to society. This may not bother some people; however others may feel a sense of void not being involved in a company or positively contributing to the world. Poker is all about you, and it can get lonely. If you think being stuck on your computer screen all day may be a problem for you, imagine how this will feel after six months of doing it? Every poker player I know who plays online for a living says it is completely unglamorous and boring. You may be able to dress it up by travelling to tournaments, but ultimately you are playing a risky game with many good players. Due to the Internet, credit crunch and training sites there have never been more good players than right now, so the risk of playing for a living has never been greater.

Some Sound Advice

It is totally your decision whether or not to use poker as your sole source of income. If you do decide to take a shot, make sure you save hard and look after your winnings. If you lose then make sure you start searching for alternative ways to earn money before you go completely broke. Aim to build some security in what is a very insecure profession. You will need to arrange the relevant accounting if your winnings are taxable depending on your country of residence. I highly recommend carrying on with some sort of course or education to give yourself options should you become bored with the grind of playing poker for a living. As the poker pros say, leave yourself outs. For those to whom playing poker for a living works out great, enjoy the very real benefits of it, but always be careful as complacency is punished hard when it comes to gambling. Never stop being a winning poker player in every sense of the word.

It's good advice.

Playing Poker Online - What You Really Need to Know

Online Poker vs. Online Gambling:

Poker is a game of skill, and every decision you make is about maximizing your Expected Value or EV for short. The term "EV" will be used throughout this article and will be seen in two ways. A player can have +EV, which is positive Expected Value or - EV, which is negative Expected Value. Poker is not gambling and the following explains why.

Most gambling games have a negative EV for you, and a positive EV (5.49% in this case) for the casino. In the short run you could win, but in the long run, if you played typical gambling games 1000 times, the casino would always end up winning by about 5.49%. As you can see these types of gambling games are in favor of the house. Poker pits you against other players and not the house. In a full ring game (9 players) or shorthanded game (6 players), the goal is to make the best EV decisions against the many other players playing worse (making -EV decisions) than you.

A simple example would be if you were dealt KK before the flop came (preflop), which everyone knows is a good hand preflop. This hand has a high chance to win against all other hands preflop. If you played and raised "all in" with this hand against a player who played and called every all in, you would have a huge advantage as you will be a favorite every time, making it a +EV decision. This is an exaggerated example and playing one hand would not be the smartest idea. What you would do is play say the top 20% of hands because against a person who plays maybe 70% of their hands, you again, will be making a +EV decision every time you play with him. It's likely that your starting hands will have a lot higher probability to win. This is just scraping the surface, and there is an EV attached to every decision and every situation. Many online poker sites provide starting hand charts for beginners to use, which would be the simplest way to improve your EV.

In addition, there is always variance and in the short term weaker players might get lucky, but that's also what attracts them to come back and keep playing. In the long run, a good player who always makes +EV decisions will always end up a winner. This is why poker is not gambling but a game of skill and understanding how to exploit your opponent's mistakes.

Is it safe to play online poker?

Absolutely, some sites have over 50,000 people playing at one time. Major sites like Full Tilt Poker run advertisements on the TV and the web and are even listed on the stock market. They allow you to play poker online for free or real money. Any negative publicity would affect their business so these sites often provide the best customer service. Keeping your password secure is your responsibility and if you do this, your money will be safe. Online poker sites have no incentive to cheat when dealing hands since they want to be extremely fair so you continue to play, which allows them to earn their income in the form of "rake." This is a very small percent of the pot (usually less than 1%). In poker, you are playing against the other players, and not the house.

Obviously if the poker site seems shady, you have never heard of it, they don't advertise on TV or the web and there aren't members playing on a regular basis - you wouldn't be depositing your money there!!! With that said, most of the major poker sites are very safe and reputable.

What are the best online poker rooms?

There are three major sites for playing online poker. Full Tilt Poker, Pokerstars and Party Poker have lots of traffic, play money tables, plenty of freeroll tournaments and have very good customer support. If you're a beginner you should play at Full Tilt Poker or Pokerstars when you start. Other sites like Party Poker call you up after you sign up and require some form of id verification to activate your account. Some people may like this extra security, and can certainly go that route. Full Tilt Poker and Pokerstars do not require this. Overall, all three sites are incredibly safe and well known.

Many sites state "Deposit and get another $600!" Do they really double your deposit amount after depositing?

That depends on the site. Some sites give you a very small portion (around 10%) of your deposit instantly, but that is rare. What typically happens is you deposit $600, and then after you accumulate a certain amount of player points, they will give you the full $600. This is to ensure depositing players are also active. With online poker sites such as Full Tilt Poker these points are achieved very quickly.

Online sites will publish poker bonus codes which must be entered upon account creation. After that, the amount you earn depends on the time you spend playing and the stakes you play at. When a player reaches 400NL limit, which means 2 to 4 dollar blinds and have a good percent of wins, they can make up to 5K a month. This is of course if you treat playing like a job and dedicate several hours every day to playing. Ultimately job freedom and the lure of easy money that is just a click away, is what draws so many people to online poker.

Poker Players - How to Earn the Most Money Playing Poker

There are beginner poker players and there are advanced poker players. Now how to get to being an advanced poker player is what many beginners would like to know. What secrets are there which make poker players earn the most money by playing poker?

For many, the money is not at all what matters, it could be the prestige and pride at winning the games, or the educational profit that many poker players earn are what matters to them. There is such as thing called an Online Poker Training School, and you can start learning how to win at serious poker games by enrolling to this training school. Poker is considered a mental exercise game, which lets you think about how to win with just your hand.

There are those who would rather learn it the easy way, and want to get ahead of others even if it entails cheating at some point. When playing poker, you always hear how people try to read their opponents' minds, and how they try to gauge which hand they would get dealt next by just looking at their opponents' movements or actions. Now, there are downloadable software programs which provide assistance to poker players who would like to get ahead a notch or two on their game of poker. Many poker players may have won a game or two this way. But there is no telling for sure whether these programs are 100% accurate. These programs work by reading all the type of hands your opponents have, their style, the number of hands they have been dealt, and everything that has happened around the poker table. The program acts as an advisor, which will tell you exactly what hand to choose, and how to play that hand. It is usually called an odds calculator, computing the odds at which you may or may not win the pot money.

Earning more money playing poker can be a risky task since you would be betting your money on more games just to win at even one. Poker players can possibly become millionaires by betting on high-stakes poker but it rarely happens, and when it does, many players often get their money and try to bet on it to win higher pot money from other games. The trick is to win a game at one poker room and then move onto playing other poker rooms, that way you can also get to play against different poker players with different styles and you can learn from their styles as well.

If you prefer to win at every game against more experienced poker players, find more experience for yourself. Most poker players will advise new players that before playing a game of poker, make sure you know much about the game. If you know a lot more, you will have the right attitude towards the game, and get defeated less often. Play game after game with the goal of just learning. You can bet as much as you can but stay within the limit, that way, you can never be bankrupt or lose all your money over online gambling.

Introduction to Draw Poker and Five-Card Draw

There are many variations of poker. One of them is draw poker. Draw poker is usually considered to be the standard poker form and is the kind of poker beginners usually learn. The number of players involved in the game varies from 3 to 7 persons. Draw poker doesn't refer to one specific poker game though. There are actually quite a few variations of draw poker.

So how do you classify a game to be a draw poker game?

A draw poker game is when each player is dealt a complete hand before the start of the first betting round and is only able to develop the given hand by discarding some of the cards and drawing new cards from the deck during succeeding rounds.

Some draw poker variations are: Standard Five-Card Draw, Jackpots or Jack to Open, Spit in the Ocean, Anaconda, Three Legged Race, Dog Butt, All for One One For All, and so many many more. With all the existing variations of draw poker it can be quite confusing for beginners to get the hang of the game. So when attempting to learn poker stick to one variation first and master it before attempting to be good at ALL of them.

Of all the draw poker variations Standard Five-Card Draw is the most popular. It is also very easy to learn. Standard Five-Card Draw is actually the very first poker variant that most players learn. When people mention poker, especially people who don't really play poker, they are actually usually referring to Five-Card Draw. Five-Card Draw, although very common in homes games, is not a very popular game in casinos and in poker tournaments. In fact it is rarely played in either of the two.

Five-Card Draw can be played with 2 to 7 players. The game starts after 5 cards are dealt to each player. The players then bet after the cards are dealt. The players are then allowed to exchange up to three cards before another betting round ensues right before the showdown. In five-card draw a player is allowed to draw four cards if the player can show that his remaining card is an ace. This is only allowed, however, if there are less than 6 players. The winner in five-card draw is the player who has the highest hand.

Due to the very basic gameplay of Five-Card Draw some variations have cropped up to spice up or at least complicate the game just a bit. Some variations include adding wildcards in the game and allowing a hand with five-of-a-kind when this happens; the so called High/Low wherein the winners of the game are the ones holding the highest and lowest hands - winners get to split the pot; the Lowball is simply the opposite of the standard game, since this time the player with the lowest hand wins the pot; and the Double Draw where an additional round of exchange and betting is done after the first round.

Poker Game - Basic Strategies

Poker is a card game that is played with money; it is not a game of pots that is played with money. A player needs to have some skills; there are no 'chances'. The players who win in this skill game clearly understand the concept of 'basic strategy poker' and this is applied by them when they play poker.

Win money & not pots - In Poker, it does not mean that if a player can win pots, he can also win good money always. The pots are incidental. If you incidentally want to win the pots, it is easy, you can. You have to play every hand and then call every single bet till the end, and you will see that you have won every pot one possibly can in poker. But at the same time, it is also true that you will lose a big money in the process. In poker, the best players engage with few hands, but they are mostly aggressive - they actually increase the money they can win when the odds are in favor of them.

On the other side, if your main objective is winning money, then do not look at the hands or you will find yourself into playing with too many hands later. In poker, the money you save is just equally valuable as the money won by you. So, to know when to release a hand is as important as to know when to bet. Just, remind yourself about this particular basic strategy poker every single time you play poker.

When it comes to poker, only players who lose hope for the good. In poker, hope does not work, but skills always work. So, dedicate all your concentration on your game and not on your hopes & prayers.

Selection & Aggression - These are the important elements of basic strategy poker that set apart the winning players from the consistent losers. You will not find even a single poker winner who does not believe in this principle. In the game of poker, the odds shift just like the cards are dealt across the table. Actually, the poker winners know when they have the best of it and they get more money when it is favorable. And at the same time they also know when not to put their chips at the stake when the odds are not in their favor.

In poker, the selectiveness and aggressiveness do not come hand in hand, one need to learn about the perfect time when to blaze guns and when to stay cool. Playing the right trick at the wrong time can worsen the situation like if a player is too aggressive, especially if the cards do not allow that, the opponents will recognize the trick eventually. And then possibly the opponents will wait till they get better hands. This results in the player betting for them when they have the best of it. And on the other side, if a player is too passive, he will not make good money even with the good hands as they make up for the loss of the blinds and the rake.

Another basic strategy poker is that a player should start the game with the best hands. If someone is playing correctly, he surely will release all the weak hands. A player can minimize the losses with weak hands and can also increase the wins with strong hands.

While playing online poker, use the cloak of anonymity on the internet for studying the opponents as part of the basic strategy poker.

In poker, smart players scout the playing styles of their opponents very diligently. One can take the advantage of anonymity of online poker. It is better to observe the game before playing. The other players even do not know about your presence and you can really note their best moves. So, this also works as an important basic strategy poker.

By now you must have learned some important tips for poker. So what are you waiting for?

Go ahead, jump into the poker game and use this great knowledge in your favor.
